Start the new school year with a clear out at the first of our autumn car boot sales.
Toys and children’s goods were hot sellers at the summer sale but, in September, organised people will already be thinking about Christmas so bring along any unwanted gifts, kitchenware, jewellery, books, clothes, etc. and start making space in your cupboards. Unfortunately, sellers cannot bring electrical items unless they hold a valid PAT test and anyone wishing to sell food will need a valid Food Hygiene Certificate.
I’m Emma, I’m a local business owner and parent, and I’m on the Committee at the Beaufort Community Centre. I got involved late last year when Lynn, the interim Centre Manager, said they needed a parents’ representative. Since then I’ve fallen in love with the place and now I’m here to see if anyone else is up for the challenge of helping us achieve our goals.
We have big, big dreams for the Centre that will make it a real hub for the community if we can achieve them. We want to get the kitchen up and running providing meals for the isolated and vulnerable, we want to host community events like BBQs, Halloween parties, barn dances and shows, reach out to the local youth population with graffiti competitions, a youth club and sports, and create a welcoming space that belongs to everyone.
To get started, the Centre needs a lot of TLC, which is why we started the new Car Boot Sales. We need to do a lot of fundraising to make essential repairs, so we want to host other fundraising events, such as a Halloween party or summer BBQ. But we need people to do that. We need everything from event planners, gardeners and decorators, to plumbers, electricians and carpenters as well as people to show sellers where to park at the Car Boot Sales or put flyers through letter boxes. At the moment, honestly, it’s me, my mum, Margaret (another Committee member) and the staff members giving up their weekends to make it happen.
If you love Southbourne as much as I do, I’m hoping you’re up for the challenge and the opportunity to give something back to the community by helping the Beaufort Community Centre become even better.
Finally, I appreciate how valuable your time is, I really do, which is why the Centre won’t waste it. Drop us a line using the contact form below and let us know what time and/or skills you can offer us, then our volunteer coordinator will do their best to make sure your help is used wisely. You could make all the difference to a lot of people.
Have a summer clear out and book a pitch at the Beaufort Centre Car Boot Sale on Sunday 16th July. Sellers from 8am, buyers from 9am.
What’s on offer?
The last Car Boot Sale saw a wide range of sellers offering toys including bikes, dressing up clothes and toys for all ages, collectibles, clothes (both handmade and second-hand), kitchenware, books, jewellery and more. We already have a large number of advance bookings so there will be plenty of rummaging opportunities.

Support your community
Did you know the Beaufort Community Association who run the Community Centre are a registered charity? The Car Boot Sale has been set up by them to generate much-needed funds to help improve the Community Centre for the benefit of Southbourne residents. They hope to re-establish the community kitchen, start a youth club, and repair the Centre among other things. But none of this can happen without your support at events like this.
We hope to see you there x
* Leaflets distributed by volunteers. Not all areas can be covered. Alternatively, visit the Centre on Beaufort Road and pick up a leaflet to receive a coupon. 50p entry donation for adults only. Children under 18 are not asked for a donation.
Beaufort Community Centre is excited to announce the next of our monthly car boot sales. With growth of over 100% from June, the fundraising event is growing into a lovely regular addition to the Community Centre. But we want it to be even bigger by making it a regular part of your car boot sale calendar. So grab your diary and block out Sunday 16th July. Even better, book and pay for your pitch in advance to receive £1 discount for your car or van! (Usual price £6 cars, £10 vans)
All the details
With a sociable start time of 8am for sellers and 9am for buyers there’s no need to get up at the crack of dawn. We are right in the heart of Southbourne next to the Stourfield schools on Beaufort Road so it’s only a few minutes drive for anybody in the neighbourhood.
Beaufort Community Car Boot Sale uses the huge car park behind the Beaufort Community Centre and with hard standing there’s no risk of muddy feet if it is wet. In fact, from the autumn we will also offer indoor pitches in our lovely hall. Match that up with a hot chocolate and that’s a great Sunday morning when the weather turns.
During the heatwave of the summer our Community Cafe are offering chilled soft drinks and ice lollies from as little as 20p alongside tea, coffee and snacks. Tables and chairs on the rear terrace also mean you can escape the sun while you enjoy your refreshments.
